Nigeria is well know for being rich with minerals and natural resources from oil to cobalt, but about precious and semi-precious stones? Gemstones are one of Nigeria's most important economic and industrial minerals. Natural biological materials, minerals, and stones can be found in igneous rocks and alluvial gravels. When cut and polished for jewellery, they are beautiful substances, and they have been used in alternative and complementary medicine since prehistoric times. Amethyst

Nigerian amethysts are quite rare are usually only mined in the Bauchi State and Taraba State. Amethysts found in these parts of Nigeria comes in a variety of primary colours ranging from light lavender or pale violet to deep purple. Amethyst can have one or both secondary colours, red and blue.

Sapphire

Nigerian sapphires, which mainly originate from Nigeria's Taraba State's Mambilla Plateau, are available in large rough sizes, with some weighing up to 100–300 ct. These sapphires, are mined from basalt-related secondary deposits.

Aquamarine

Many stunning aquamarine gemstones have recently been discovered in many parts of Nigeria. The colour of these aquamarines are rich, bright medium blue with a slight green undertones and no grey tones.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is found in the Nigerian states of Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Osun. Tourmaline is a crystalline boron silicate mineral composed of aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Nigerian Tourmaline comes in a variety of colours, including blue, white, green, pink, watermelon, and red.
