White Gemstones

When most people think of white gemstones they usually invision diamonds. The king of all gemstones and treasured throughout the world for centuries, diamonds are the most popular white or colourless gemstone around, however, there are a variety of others stunning white gemstones that have their own alluring, unique appeal. 

Opal is a gemstone unlike any other, with a wide range of colours and distinct hues. While the most prevalent colours of this gemstone are white, grey, black, and blue, opals can display a wide range of colours. Opal is made up of microscopic silica spheres that develop when silica-rich water seeps through deep fissures and gaps in the Earth's crust. There are two types of opal: common opal (also known as potch) and valuable opal (also known as noble opal).

Sapphires come in a spectrum of colours but colourless sapphire gemstones are a popular alternative to diamond. White sapphires, like other sapphires, including blue sapphires, are a variety of the mineral corundum. While sapphires don't have the same sparkle and clarity as diamonds, they have a rank of 9 out of 10 on the Moh's Scale meaning they're very durable and work well as the centre stone in an engagement ring. 

White is the most traditional and popular colour of pearl. These stones are unique in the gemstone world as they are formed in the sea rather than the depths of the earth. They do not require any additional cutting or polishing to bring out their brilliant beauty, which has been valued since ancient times and guarantees that pearl jewellery remains fashionable. The white pearl is a sign of purity and is frequently connected with wedding and graduation ceremonies.

Moonstone is an orthoclase feldspar mineral consisting of potassium aluminium silicate. The presence of adularescence distinguishes it from other comparable stones such as amazonite and labradorite,  Ancient nations treasured moonstone and concocted origin stories as fantastic as the stone itself. According to legend,  people thought this stone was made of moonbeams.

Another popular alternative for diamond, white topaz is a popular gemstone that is harder than most gemstones and displays amazing sparkle. White topaz is a colourless variation of topaz, which is a silicate mineral that comes in a range of hues. Topaz is really colorless in its purest form - the different colours and vanities this gemstone is available in are caused by impurities in the stone.
